The Exposed Eye

An ASSIGNMENT from Helga Härenstam and Anna Strand to you:
Do something about The End.

The Exposed Eye #1 is a book, published by Sailor Press, that consists of an
experimental image and text correspondence in which we (Helga Härenstam and
Anna Strand) have given each other assignments.

The last assignment in the book is The End and it is addressed to you, the reader. If
you have found this website, we hope that you are here to contribute.

The deadline is 14 February 2025.

All contributions (that we do not find totally inappropriate) will be presented as part of
our exhibition The Exposed Eye at Alingsås konsthall in the spring of 2025. They
will be displayed on a separate wall in the exhibition space. The wall will change over
time and eventually take the form of a collage of works related to The End.

It may happen that we get ideas and want to continue working inspired by what you
have submitted. In this case, your contribution will also be presented together with
our response in part #2 of the physical publication The Exposed Eye #2, to be
published by Sailor Press in the winter of 2025.

If you submit, it means that you are open to and accept this scenario.

If you submit a text: All kinds of texts are welcome, but not more than seven A4 pages. Your text can be written in English or Swedish. The text material in your submission should not be graphically designed.

Save your text as a word document with your name as the title.
Send your text as an attachment in an email: contact@theexposedeye.se
Include your contact information in the email, adress and phone number.

If you submit an image/images: All techniques are welcome. (photographs, drawings, QRcodes, as well as images/scans off sheet music, found notes …etc), but not more then ten images.

Save your image/images as tiff file/files, 300 dpi, shortest side 30 cm
Title the image/images with your name and 1,2,3…
Save your images (and text if working with a combination) and a document with your contact information (adress and phone number) in a folder titled with your name.
Compress the folder as a zip file.

Dear Reader,

During a breezy sea vacation, we entered into an agreement that over the next year, we would embark on a shared game. The game was to give each other assignments that were formulated: “Do something about …” The ellipses were to be replaced with something one of us thought the other should take on. The assignment, once completed, contained the seed for the next one, and it would continue in this vein until it some- how came to an end. We started with a man who was called “Raftworks Abrahamsson” and moved around after that in realities and escapisms, among children, X-rays, deserted houses, archives, sorrows, photo labs, sadists, harbor towns, slaughterhouses, amusement parks, dreams, coffins, and cyclo- pes. We impacted life and were impacted by life. We traveled to Vindeln, to Paris, to Helsinki, and in time. We mixed together and were mixed together.

The result of those completed assignments is what you now hold in your hand.
